September 2017 Machine or Hand Applique Block
Christmas Ornament


Background ~ From white fabric cut a 10” square Ornament, cap, stripes and hanger are your choice of christmas fabric. The hanger can also be ribbon. Center on Block (background). Machine or hand applique in place. Decorate if desired/as desired. Square to 9 1/2”. To be turned in at the November meeting

September 2017 Pieced Block
Pumpkin


From 5 assorted orange fabrics cut 2" x 6" strips
From a brown fabric cut one 2" square
From a green fabric cut one 2" x 3 1/2"
From the cream fabric cut the following - six 2" squares, one 2" x 3 3/4" strip, two 2" x 7 1/2" strip, two 2" x 11 1/4"

Sew the orange strips together, making a 6" x 8" strip unit. Place a cream square on each corner of the strip unit. Mark and sew diagonally corner to corner. Trim to a 1/4" seam. Press.

To make leaf unit: Layer two background squares on top of green strip, mark and sew them diagonally corner to corner. Trim to 1/4" seam, and press.
Sew together the 2" x 3 3/4" cream background, 2" square brown stem and leaf unit.
Sew stem and leaf row to top of the orange strip set.
Sew the 2: x 7 1/2" background strips to each side of the pumpkin block.
Sew the 2" x 11" background strips to the top and bottom of pumpkin blocks.
To be turned in at the November meeting.

Quilts of Valor
Another “Friendship Star” Block
Choose a DARK BLUE fabric (Patriotic Preferred) and cut four 2 1/2” squares to make the center of 4 blocks.
Cut four 3” squares of a MEDIUM BLUE solid (or small print that reads as solid) and four 3” squares of solid WHITE fabric (or tone on tone).
Make eight half-square triangles. Trim to 2 1/2” and assemble per picture..
Make a total of four 6 1/2” blocks to form one 12 1/2” block.
Please try to follow the color specifications closely so that a more coordinated finished top can be made. Thank you!
A= 3” trim to 2 1/2” B= 2 1/2” square C= four 6 1/2” blocks
Completed = 1 12 1/2” block ~~ To be turned in at the September meeting
