Helene Knott – Bella Vista Landscape Vignette Class
September 8, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Helene was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula in central California, a beautiful area that served as an inspiration to set her onto a creative path for life. From a very early age she showed a keen interest in art, starting with drawing and painting and exploring different mediums for self-expression and pursued Art courses in college. In the early 70’s, she turned her attention to fiber and fabrics with a focus on quilting and embroidery. For the last 50 years or so, fiber and quilting has been her primary focus and passion with a notable focus on scenic pictorial and landscape quilts.
In 1991, she moved to the Pacific Northwest where she currently lives in a house on two acres with her husband, two cats (one from Afghanistan), a dog and an ornery parrot. She began teaching fiber and quilting classes in 1999. Over the years, her work has won awards at local, regional and national shows and the recognition has served her well in promoting herself as a teacher. In 2006 she received a nomination for the ‘Teacher of the Year’ by Professional Quilter Magazine. Some of her quilts have appeared in the pages of books and the cover of Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine. She’s also written articles for various magazines and designed quilt patterns. In 2018, she designed a couple of fabric lines for Northcott Fabrics that were based on her original quilts.
This class is a perfect introduction to creating scenic landscape quilts. The quilts are small, simple and fused – resulting in a fast and easy project. Once the fabric is chosen, these mini quilts go together quickly and can be finished with borders to make a small wall hanging measuring approximately 10”x 12” (smaller pattern) or 14” x 20″ (larger pattern).
The focus of the class will be on using fabrics creatively to get marvelous effects in pictorial quilts, but basic principles of designing landscape quilts will also be covered. There will be optional kits available for four of the patterns. Kits will be available at the time of the class and cannot be provided ahead of time. Students who opt for a kit will still need to bring the supplies underlined and marked with an asterisk on the supply list provided when you sign up for the class.
