DESCRIPTION:When it comes to careers\, Sheila Collins is something of a shape-shifter\, changing her profession every decade or so. Most recently she has combined her background in fashion design and graphic design with her love of sewing to focus on dimensional fabric art that is bright\, cheerful\, and fun. Her specialty is fusible applique. Sheila’s creative journey also includes participating in many juried art festivals exhibiting and selling her art. Her presentation is inspiring and will have you smiling. \n \nOn May 8\, Sheila will be demonstrating how to make a Mandala pattern on a 20“ x 20“ canvas. This project is inspired by her love of flowers and uses fusible appliqué and some fancy stitching and gluing. She also likes to add fabric covered buttons to complete her dimensional designs. There is a $12 pattern fee in class. Sheila will collect the fee on the day of the workshop and it can be paid with cash\, credit card or a check. A supply list and pattern in PDF format will be available from Sheila about three weeks before the class. Techniques\, for students who want it to be on a 20” x 20” canvas covered in fabric\, will be demonstrated. However\, quilters are welcome to use the project as a quilted wall hanging instead or applied as wearable art. \n \nThere is no need to cut out your fabric before hand but it will have you moving along at a faster pace. The largest pattern piece can be manipulated to fit in a 5 x 5 square. Therefore you can use a packet or two of 5 x 5 Charm Packs for this project. Peltex or any heavy weight fusible will be used to bring definition and dimension to this activity. This is a three-tiered pattern that will be sewn together before it is adhered to the backing material. This project may not be finished in class but Sheila will go over all the procedures and pattern pieces that will be needed to complete the project. \nThe cost is $50 for guild members with a discount of $5 if paid for by March 30th.
