Sam Beene – Bargello Placemat
February 14, 2026 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Bargello quilts, so beautiful to look at, but to most it’s a mind-boggling concept that many just say “Nope, I’ll pass”! If you were ever in doubt about whether you could make one of these, you’re in for a very nice surprise! Sam has her own way of taking a complicated pattern and simplifying it for even new quilters. Do you cut it flat or while in a circle? Not sure what that means? Sam will make it make sense. She has learned many tricks of the trade to make this easy and fun to sew. What she’ll show you and walk you through are what we call “old school” techniques that you can use with anything you make, not just Bargello quilts. And the best part is, you’ll leave class with the top of your Bargello Placemat completely sewn!
Class Fee is $15 for MSQG members if paid by January 13, 2026 or $20 after that date. Class fee for non-members of MSQG is $20 if paid by January 13, 2026 or $25 after that date. Lunch will be 60 minutes and will be a potluck with members attending Open Sew.

Sam is a fixture in our Guild and is loved by all. She started sewing and making quilts at just eight years old with her grandmother. Raised in Grants Pass since 1964, she her and husband of 47 years live in White City. Sam is one of many quilters in our Guild who give away everything they make, and this brings her as much joy as making the quilts! Her love of learning and being challenged is what makes her the quilter she is today. Sam never misses a Retreat, it’s her time to escape the world, sew and relax with friends.
