“Thankful for November”
Quilt Maker: Marie Finch
Quilt Name: Four and Twenty Blackbirds
Quilt Information: While blackbird pie is not a traditional Thanksgiving dish 🥧🦅 I’m hoping this quilt will fit into the Front Porch Quilt Show for November. I loved the fabric and colors and finished the top quickly, but when my longarm quilter moved to Portland it became a UFO.
When Stitched on 2nd opened around the corner, Janet Wilson did a great job quilting it. It’s one of my favorites.
Quilt Maker: Carole Leaverton
Quilt Name: Jodie’s Sunbonnet Sue Rubber Duckie
Quilt Information: This is a variation of a Sunbonnet Sue using Rubber Duckies. The first couple patterns were found online years ago (Jodie Anderson, from Jodie and Company, 2008). I came up with a few of my own to make this quilt. Who can’t be happy and smile when they see a Rubber Duckie?
Quilt Maker: Susan Tresner
Quilt Name: Funky Chicken
Quilt Information: Good looks fade. Wealth comes and goes. My memory isn’t what it used to be but I’m grateful I haven’t lost my sense of humor.
Quilt Maker: Elaine Shanafelt
Quilt Name: Double Take
Quilt Information: Using the leftover blocks and squares from the “Healing Quilt”, I made this quilt for one of my women’s group members who had dementia and moved to be near her daughter in California.
Quilt Maker: Elaine Shanafelt
Quilt Name: Double Pinwheel Healing Quilt
Quilt Information: I’m thankful for the support & caring of friends. The idea for this quilt came from a friend who was making a quilt for a charity that used quilts to comfort homeless and indigent clients who were dying. In 2010-11, I made this quilt for my women’s group, to pass around to any member going through a difficult time and needing to feel surrounded by the support & caring of her “sisters”. I won the pattern at a MSQG meeting.
Quilt Maker: Elaine Shanafelt
Quilt Name: Autumn Star
Quilt Information: I’m thankful for all the beautiful colors of fall. One of my first quilts, the pattern was a mystery quilt published in Mountain Stars 1997-98 newsletters. Machine-pieced and hand-quilted, I finished it in 1999.
Quilt Maker: Katie Gomez
Quilt Name: Thankful for the Rio Grande
Quilt Information: My November Front Porch Quilt continues with my use of UFOs. For this month I chose 3 orphan blocks done in the Converge style. I next chose a panel with many parts and chose a few of those. Then it was to my batiks. All of the colors went together. I added the turquoise sashing both for the river and the wonderful jewelry of the area that I hold dear to my heart. It is 32.5” square.
My first childhood memories were in New Mexico. Growing up next to an irrigation ditch, water was important. I’m “Grateful for the Rio Grande” for it provided the area with needed water.
Quilt Maker: Ellen Eastman (Susan Tresner, quilt owner)
Quilt Name: Octopus’s Garden
Pattern Inspiration: Pacific Rim Quilt Company “Octopus”.
Quilt Information: I made this for my friend, Susann. It is my first attempt at an “art” quilt on my own. I used the pattern cover for inspiration and the octopus, quilted the background before fusing the octopus and adding embellishments. It is mounted on foam core and I used some cording as a “rope” frame.

Quilt Name: It’s Raining Autumn
Quilt Pattern: Nutmeg Hare, #61 It’s Raining Autumn.
Quilt Information: This was my first wool project!
Quilt Maker: Ellen Eastman
Quilt Name: Pumpkins
Pattern Source: We All Sew Bernina – Cherry Guidry, Cherry Blossoms.
Quilt Information: Many quilt shops are selling toweling to make fancy dish towels. I saw this black toweling and envisioned it as a table runner with wool appliqué.
Quilt Maker: Ellen Eastman
Quilt Name: Healdsburg Vineyard
Quilt Information: I, too, took Denise Oyama Miller’s confetti quilts class at Material Girls in Shady Cove. This was a boatload of fun to make! I also included the photo that was my inspiration.
Quilt Maker: Gwena Evers (submitted by Ellen Eastman)
Quilt Name: Mountain Blossoms
Quilt Information: I am thankful for friends, past and present. This was gifted to me by my friend, Gwena, just before she passed. I feel blessed.
Quilt Maker: Peggy Payne and Kathy Miners
Quilt Name: Dad’s Christmas Quilt
Quilt Information: Our father loved photography and took hundreds of family photos throughout the years. In 2001, when we were first learning to quilt, we decided use some of his many photos to make a quilt for him as a Christmas present. He loved the result (even though the craftsmanship of the quilt wasn’t all that great.) Our quilting techniques might have improved over the years but we’ll always be thankful for having the opportunity to give him something that meant so much to him.
