Quilt Show 2022 – Catch the Wave!

The 2022 Mountain Stars Quilters Guild biennial quilt show “Catch the Wave!” which took place at the Medford Armory on July 22-23, 2022 was a huge success! There were well over 200 amazing quilts on display including 12 Get Wet Challenge Quilts, 4 Southern Oregon Longarm Association (SOLA) challenge quilts, and several Rogue Modern Quilters Bees & Bird quilts. You can see a list of the ribbon winners by clicking here and photos of the ribbon winning quilts are shown below.

We also had 40 Quilts of Valor on display with 6 of them being presented at the show (or immediately afterwards). Tom served in the Navy right after WWII, Gary served with the Army in Vietnam, Sam was a Navy Seal during the Middle East wars, and another went to a guild member’s friend in Hawaii. The last 2 will be presented to vets who live on the Oregon coast and were unable to attend the quilt show: Alex who served in the army and Penny who was a navy nurse in Korea. (Note: The last names of recipients are withheld for privacy reasons.)

The show included two excellent featured quilters. Sue Cunningham showcased her “Tradition with an Eclectic Twist” quilts (shown below) and Susan Tresner presented her charming “Runs with Scissors” quilts (shown below).

Some of the other highlights of the show included: 24 fabulous themed Raffle Baskets, hourly Floor Bingo door prizes, 12 vendor booths, and a wonderful Pins & Needles boutique which helped raise money for the Every Child organization in Jackson and Josephine Counties (the recipients of the Guild’s net profits from the show).

Near the close of the show on Saturday, the drawing was held to award the guild’s custom designed opportunity quilt, Butterflies & Blooms, along with its set of matching pillow shams. The winner was Sherrie Adams from Redmond, Oregon. Congratulations to Sherrie! The quilt and matching shams can be viewed by clicking here.

All proceeds from the ticket sales were split equally between Every Child of Josephine and Jackson Counties. The photos on the right show Teresa Mertz from Every Child in Josephine County at the November General Meeting receiving their half of the proceeds on behalf of Every Child in Josephine County and talking to the attendees at the meeting about the wonderful work being done by this charity in support of vulnerable children and families.
